When is the best time to look for housing?

Whenever you are ready to start thinking about living off campus is the best time to start your search. We've noticed the busiest times of the housing search tend to be the following:

  • Late March / April (after University Villas applications/placements are finalized)
  • Early Fall (many landlords/property managers finalize rental agreements for units a year in advance)
  • November / December (after Neighborhood Unit applications/placements are finalized)

If you are looking for housing outside these times, that's okay! We can still help

How much does it cost to live in the area?

If you are new to the area, Santa Clara County housing costs tend to be above the national average. Depending on a multitude of factors (proximity to campus, amenities, etc.), the low-end of a 2-bedroom/1-bathroom apartment is roughly $3,400/month. To see what's nearby, check out Off Campus Living's "Housing" page for options.

What are the first steps to find housing off campus?

Before diving into listings and talking to landlords, start by checking out our "Resources." There, you’ll find:

  • Tips on what to look for when searching for housing
  • Information on avoiding potential scams
  • Guidance on your rights as a tenant
  • What to expect throughout the housing process

When you take time to reflect on your budget, timeline, and non-negotiables, that narrows down the search process for you.

Can you help me find roommates?

We have a "housing/roommate finder" form you can fill out, and a "housing/roommate finder results" list of everyone who filled out the form who you can reach out to, on our website's "Housing" page. You can input preferences of what you are looking for in a roommate, and reach out to other people who did the same to see if you are a match. A short email or text introducing yourself - Hello, I'm [insert name]. I saw you filled out the roommate finder form on the Off Campus Living website. I'm also looking for a roommate. Would you be interested in meeting? - could go a long way.

Can I drop in or do I have to make an appointment?

You can come by any time we're open!

Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. We are closed for lunch from 12pm-1pm.

If you are a student who has a quick question, needs some advice, or if you want to hang out in-between classes, you're welcome. It's a perfect spot for commuters. We have comfortable seating where you can do homework.
